When it comes to leather, quality changes everything.
At Yarets Leather, we believe in transparencyβand in using only the best materials. If youβve ever been confused by all the different leather terms out there, hereβs a quick, no-nonsense guide to the three main types:
Genuine Leather
Donβt let the name fool you. Genuine leather is real, but itβs the lowest grade. Itβs usually made by bonding leftover scraps together. Sure, itβs easy on the wallet, but it doesnβt hold up well over time. Youβll often find it in cheaper belts, wallets, or bags.
Top Grain Leather
A step up from genuine, top grain leather is cut from the outer layer of the hide. Itβs sanded and finished to remove natural blemishes, which gives it a smoother, more polished look. Itβs durable, but loses a bit of that raw character and strength you get with the best cuts.
Full Grain Leather
This is the good stuff. Full grain leather is the highest qualityβyouβre getting the hide in its most natural state, flaws and all. Itβs strong, breathable, and only gets better with age as it develops a beautiful patina. Itβs what we use when we want something to last for years and still look great.
