When it comes to leather, quality changes everything.
At Yarets Leather, we believe in transparency—and in using only the best materials. If you’ve ever been confused by all the different leather terms out there, here’s a quick, no-nonsense guide to the three main types:
Genuine Leather
Don’t let the name fool you. Genuine leather is real, but it’s the lowest grade. It’s usually made by bonding leftover scraps together. Sure, it’s easy on the wallet, but it doesn’t hold up well over time. You’ll often find it in cheaper belts, wallets, or bags.
Top Grain Leather
A step up from genuine, top grain leather is cut from the outer layer of the hide. It’s sanded and finished to remove natural blemishes, which gives it a smoother, more polished look. It’s durable, but loses a bit of that raw character and strength you get with the best cuts.
Full Grain Leather
This is the good stuff. Full grain leather is the highest quality—you’re getting the hide in its most natural state, flaws and all. It’s strong, breathable, and only gets better with age as it develops a beautiful patina. It’s what we use when we want something to last for years and still look great.
